Erika Ranee's 'All Natural' to open at Klaus von Nichtssagend Gallery
Abstract painter Erika Ranee will have her first solo exhibit at the Klaus von Nichtssagend Gallery in New York this month. The show is titled All Natural, and the work is largely inspired by the different environments through which Ranee moves during the course of her life — be they the woods of western Massachusetts where she grew up, or the concrete sidewalks of downtown NYC where she now lives. The paintings exemplify the artist’s process-based studio practice, developing complex and deeply beautiful surfaces from myriad applications of paint, collage, and mark-making.The work is breathtaking and rewards close inspection— just when you think you’ve seen everything, a surprise patch of bright blue or a tiny stenciled leaf will reveal itself. The paintings are at once a celebration of life and a meditation on the complexity of it all.
